Information literacy at the ScotGovCamp on July 31st?

SLIC will be in attendance at this event next month.  Lesley Thomson  of the Scottish Government’s information literacy community of practice is the driving force behind the ‘unconference’ being organised to take place in Edinburgh on Saturday 31st July between 10am and 4pm. The event is being held in the Edinburgh University’s Informatics Forum, 19 Crichton Street Edinburgh EH8 9AB, and will be of interest to library and information services staff with an interest in digital engagement in Scotland, whether it be libraries and social media, online content strategies or the next stage of digital services development.

You can sign up to attend at http://scotgovcamp.eventbrite.com/ The event is free, has no set agenda and enables those with a common interest in innovation and technology to share ideas and experiences.

While we’re still on the topic of information literacy, SLIC is pleased to note that JISC’s ‘outstanding ICT initiative’ award has gone to the Open University’s virtual learning environment called OpenLearn.  This fantastic online learning website contains over 600 free independent study units amounting to over 6000 hours of tuition.  Each unit is supported by a discussion forum and there are quite a few units on various aspects of information literacy and study skills. Definitely worth a look!
