Sweet Tweets!

CILIPS offered its ‘Introducing Twitter as a professional development tool’ half day workshop for the third time recently, attracting a range of library and information professionals interested in microblogging.  The  workshop aimed to demonstrate that Twitter is not just for lifestreaming but can  be a highly effective professional tool which everyone can  use for connecting, collaborating and informing.  As well as helping delegates create an account, start ‘following’ people  and posting tweets, the course showed how Twitter can be used to expand professional networks and for offering and receiving advice.  Its strengths for professional development include the ability to share links to websites, news articles, blog postings, presentations, videos or other online resources and for offering and receiving advice.  CILIPS hopes to offer the workshop again this autumn.  In the meantime you might want to note  that  CILIPS Conference 2010 will include real time tweets grouped under the hashtag  ‘#CILIPS10’. So, if you’re  joining us in Glasgow’s Mitchell Library next week remember and use the hashtag.  If you’re not attending you can use the hashtag  to follow what’s happening from your mobile or desktop and sample Twitter’s value as a professional development tool!
